In today's society, youth with learning disabilities and reading impediments are all too often pushed into “certificate” and special education programs that weaken their self-confidence and motivation to succeed. Insurmountable barriers are established that prohibit these young people from creating legacies and building wealth for themselves and their families. Thus, they continue to perpetuate debilitating cycles of underachievement and poverty.
Literacy to Legacy, Inc. works with youth to ensure that they have the tools required for successfully navigating the education system and working toward a brighter future. As illiteracy, poverty, and lack of direction, parental influences or other positive role models, among other factors, often derail our youth well before they graduate high school, we have made a commitment to identify youth in as early as middle school who are in need of our services. We hope to meet these youth wherever their needs lie and provide them with the tools and guidance needed to assist with:
- Reading
- Tutoring
- High school exit exams
- Waiver applications
- College applications
- Scholarships and financial aid
- College enrollment and graduation
- Job placement, and
- Entrepreneurship.
Because we realize that for some, getting into college is only half the battle, Literacy to Legacy also provides college coaches who offer youth guidance throughout their college careers and permit youth to work with real life entrepreneurs and artists who have elected to take a non-traditional road to building a legacy.
Ultimately, our goal is to meet youth where they are, help them realize their potential at an early age, and take them from literacy to legacy, so that together, we can help secure a welcoming and successful future for us all.
To accomplish this, we need your help!
